Gymnasts fine-tune skills ahead of Asian Championships

DOHA: Some of the world's and continent's well-known men and women gymnasts fine-tuned their skills and techniques at the Aspire Dome on Monday as they prepare for the 9th Senior Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships. 

The men's (MAG) and women's (WAG) competition will be held at the Aspire Dome from Wednesday (June 15) until Saturday (June 18). 

A total of 137 gymnasts from 21 countries will be fighting for top honours at the event which will be one of the qualify competitions for this year's FIG World Artistic Championships in Liverpool (United Kingdom).   

The competition hall is being readied for the top competition as the Organising Committee are putting in their best efforts to make this event successful.

Qatar will be hosting the Asian Championships after 2008.

Mohammed Abdullah Al Maraghi, chairman of Public Relations and Media Committees at the Local Organising Committee (LOC), exuded confidence ahead of the four-day event.  

 

The Qatari capital Doha, hosts of this year's FIFA World Cup, has had hosted many major sports competitions including the 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

 

"By hosting this event in the best possible way, we want to showcase Qatar's excellent infrastructure besides the organising capabilities to the world," said Al Maraghi, who is the Assistant Secretary General at Qatar Gymnastics Federation. 

Meanwhile, the LOC held a coordination meeting yesterday to discuss on the overall readiness of the venue and other logistical matters related to the championships. 

"We are confident of organising the Asian Championship successfully like we did with other top events in the past,” added Al Maraghi.

 

QGF’s goal is to re-affirm Qatar's position as a top-notch sports destination, says Al Buainain

DOHA: Qatar Gymnastics Federation secretary general Abeer Al Buainain exuded confidence in the preparations ahead of next week’s 9th Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships.

The competition will be held at the Aspire Dome from June 15-18.

“Our goal is to present a version that is no less successful than the Artistic World Cup and to re-affirm Qatar's position as a top-notch sports destination,” said Al Buanain, who is also the Competition Director.

Al Buainain stressed the need to complete the work at an accelerated pace and also hoped the LOC will be able to complete all arrangements related to the championships.

Doha will host the Asian Championships for the second time since it was held here in 2008.

Al Buainain, who is a well-known WAG judge, praised the efforts made by various tournament committees at the LOC.

“There’s a great desire to make this competition a hugely successful one. The LOC has provided all the requirements and equipment for hosting that reflects Qatar’s keenness on organizing an exceptional event.

“The main competition and training halls have been given the final touches to ensure they’re ready before the competition starts,” said Al Buainain at a recently-held LOC meeting.

“Various committees including hotel accommodation, logistics, and travel among others have been formed to manage the four-day competition.” 

Colourful opening ceremony for Asian Championships

DOHA: The Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) president Ali Al Hitmi has promised a colourful opening ceremony that will kick start the 9th Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships at the Aspire Dome on June 15.

The competition will continue until June 18, with the qualifiers starting from tomorrow. 

Al Hitmi, who is also the head of the Organising Committee, praised the ongoing opening ceremony rehearsals at the Aspire Dome.

“The success of the opening ceremony will reflect our organizational success. We want to host the tournament in the best possible way,” said Al Hitmi.

This is also for the time in recent years that a grand opening ceremony has been planned for a gymnastics event.

Doha, which has become a top-notch host of major international sports since last one decade, will be hosting the Asian competition after 2008.

The Qatari capital is one of the stopovers of the FIG Artistic World Cup Series every year, and it capital became the first city in the Arab region to host the 2018 FIG Artistic World Championships.

“We’ve worked hard to organize an exceptional competition that will reaffirm Qatar’s position as a world-class host,” added Al Hitmi.

DOHA: Qatar Gymnastics Federation (QGF) will host the 9th Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships (MAG & WAG) at the iconic Aspire Dome from June 15-18.
This will be second time after 2008 that Doha will be hosting the Asian Championships.
The QGF president and head of the Local Organising Committee said that preparations are in full swing as Doha is all set to host this mega Asian event.
“The LOC has been working hard to make this competition successful,” said QGF president and LOC head Ali Al Hitmi.
A total of 81 male and 56 female gymnasts have registered for this year’s edition while Hong Kong and Kazakhstan have already landed in the Qatari capital to take part in the competition.

What’s the importance of this tournament?
Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championship will be another opportunity to show to the world what Qatar is capable of as a top-notch hosts of major international sports competitions. Like in the past, as organisers, we always want to excel. This time too, we will produce an exceptional competition. Such tournaments also helps us with an opportunity to present our culture to the world and allow them to learn about our heritage.

Tell us about the preparations done so far by QGF.
The preparations are going in the best possible way. The LOC has worked hard in the last couple of months to ensure Qatar hosts yet another world-class event. The gymnasium hall at the Aspire Dome has been set to welcome the top continental gymnasts. Hosting this event in Doha will be another opportunity to showcase Qatar’s exceptional and unparalleled sports infrastructure.

How many countries are participating?
A total of 21 countries have been officially registered for the championship. It will be one of the most competitive Asian Championships in recent years. Total number of participants in this edition will have 81 male and 56 female gymnasts including world and Asian champions.

How many Qatari gymnasts will participate?
Qatar has registered Rakan Al Harith and Duha Al Habshi for the tournament. QGF has fine-tuned Qatari gymnasts’ preparation at the multiple training camps while participating in international events have boosted their confidence ahead of the Asian Championships. The competition is a tough one and it’ll be an opportunity for them to compete with the best.

Doha to host Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships from June 15-18

DOHA: Doha will be hosting the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships after 2008 edition, which had featured 129 gymnasts from 20 nations in this top Asian event.

After a long gap of 14 years, that the Qatari capital will once again host this mega gymnastics event this year from June 15-18.
The LOC headed by Qatar Gymnastics Federation President Mr Ali Al Hitmi recently held a meeting with the QGF Board Members to discuss on the forthcoming 9th Senior Asian Championship.
QGF Secretary-General Ms Abeer Al Bouanain and Deputy Secretary-General Mr Mohammed Abdullah Al Maraghi attended the meeting along with other QGF officials.
The competition will be held at the iconic Aspire Dome that has hosted several top gymnastics competitions in the last one decade including the 2018 FIG Artistic World Championships.
